Locate Us ("we," "our," or "the App") values your trust and privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use Locate Us on supported platforms, including iOS and Android.

1. Information We Collect

Locate Us is a location tracking and sharing application. We collect the information necessary to provide real-time positioning, location sharing, and intelligent location management services:

1.1 Location Data

• Real-time GPS coordinates and location information;
• Location history, including timestamps, travel routes, and movement patterns;
• Geofencing areas you create (home, school, work, etc.) and related settings;
• Location sharing preferences and trusted contact lists;
• Location analytics data such as time spent at different locations and movement statistics.

Location data is essential for the App's core functionality. We use this data to provide real-time location tracking, location sharing with family and friends, geofencing alerts, and location history features. Your location data is stored securely and is only shared with contacts you explicitly authorize.

1.2 Account and Profile Information

• Account credentials (email address, username) if you create an account;
• Profile information such as display name and profile picture;
• Family group memberships and friend connections;
• Notification preferences and app settings.

1.3 Device and Diagnostics Data

• Device information including device model, operating system version, and unique device identifiers;
• Anonymous crash reports and performance logs from services such as Firebase Crashlytics to help us diagnose issues and improve stability;
• Aggregated analytics from tools like Google Analytics for Firebase or App Store Connect event reports may capture session counts, feature usage, or device models. These datasets do not identify you personally.

1.4 Advertising and Third Parties

• Ad-supported experiences may use networks such as Google AdMob to show ads. These services may access your device advertising identifier, IP address, and general device information to deliver and measure ads;
• If you purchase an ad-free or premium plan, ads will be removed for the duration of your subscription;
• Third-party SDKs (such as map services) operate under their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review their practices.

2. How We Use Information

We process information to:

• Enable essential features, such as real-time location tracking, location sharing with family and friends, geofencing alerts, location history, and interactive maps;
• Provide location-based services including arrival/departure notifications, movement detection, and emergency location sharing;
• Generate location analytics and reports to help you understand movement patterns;
• Provide customer support and respond to your inquiries;
• Analyze anonymized usage patterns to optimize positioning algorithms and improve user experience;
• Serve and monitor advertisements where applicable;
• Meet legal obligations and protect against misuse.

3. Data Storage and Security

• Local Data: Location history and settings are stored locally on your device. If you uninstall the App or reset your device, your locally stored location data may be deleted. You can export location data manually from within the App whenever available.
• Cloud Storage: Location data may be synchronized to our secure servers to enable location sharing across devices and with authorized contacts. This data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
• Data Retention: We retain location data for as long as necessary to provide our services. You can delete your location history at any time through the App settings.
• Safeguards: We employ security practices such as encrypted transport (HTTPS) for all data transfers, system permission sandboxes, restricted employee access to location data, and regular security audits.

4. Location Sharing and Third-Party Access

• Location sharing is only enabled with contacts you explicitly authorize. You control who can see your location and when.
• You can revoke location sharing permissions at any time through the App settings or by removing contacts from your trusted list.
• We do not sell your location data to third parties. Location data is only shared with authorized contacts you select and with service providers necessary to operate the App (such as map service providers).

5. Your Choices and Rights

• Manage Permissions: You can revoke location access, network access, notifications, or other permissions in your device settings at any time. Note that revoking location access will disable core App features.
• Location Sharing Controls: You can start or stop sharing your location with specific contacts at any time through the App.
• Data Access & Export: Where supported, you can view and export your location history and reports directly from the App.
• Deletion: You can delete your location history, geofencing areas, and account data at any time. Deleting the App removes local location data. For cloud-stored data, we will provide in-app options to delete synced data.
• Personalized Ads: You can reset advertising IDs or limit ad tracking via system settings (e.g., iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising; Android Settings → Privacy → Ads).

6. Children's Privacy

Locate Us is intended for individuals aged 13 and older, or the minimum age permitted in your jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without parental consent. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us so we can remove it promptly. Parents or guardians should supervise their children's use of location tracking services.

7. International Use

If you access Locate Us from regions with different data protection laws, you consent to the processing of information in the jurisdictions where we or our service providers operate. We strive to comply with applicable regulations, including GDPR where applicable, but local legal requirements may vary.

8. Policy Updates

We may revise this Privacy Policy to reflect product changes or legal requirements. We will notify you in-app or by other reasonable means if we make material updates. Continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
